Beautiful hammered copper Arts & Crafts mirror. The corners are centred with Scottish thistles and the verse of the Galloway Grace embossed to the upper and lower frame reads:
'Some hae meat and canna eat some wad eat that want it
But we hae meat and we can eat
And sae the Lord be thankit. Burns'
This verse was attributed to Scottish poet and lyricist Robert Burns around 1750. Robert Burns was later embraced by the Arts and Crafts movement and is often quoted on craftsman furniture mirrors and carved ecclesiastical works.
This mirror is in very good condition with the frame beaten and embossed by hand and dating from around 1900. The frame measures 20" high x 23" wide.
