This tapestry is also known as The Garden and is from an embroidered wool portiere designed by John Henry Dearle (1860-1932) for Morris & Co. in 1910. Dearle worked very closely with William Morris for many years and took over as Art Director at the firm after Morris's death.

From studying an old French Arts and Crafts manual, William Morris taught himself the technique of weaving, and thereafter taught his workmen the technique, and is thereby attributed with reviving the craft of tapestry-weaving in England during the last quarter of the 19th century.

This beautiful tapestry is woven on a jacquard loom by skilled weavers, keeping alive the centuries old tradition of tapestry manufacturing from generation to generation. This tapestry is fully lined incorporating a sleeve along the top for a hanging rod. Alternatively, this tapestry can be hung with a wooden batten which is a concealed method of hanging.

Woven in Belgium and lined in England.

This tapestry is 142 cm (high) x 90 cm (wide). This is a special order tapestry which takes around 7 - 10 days to order.

Please note: only possible to ship to Mainland UK.

A larger 180 cm x 142 cm version of this tapestry is also available - please contact us if you are interested in this larger size.

We also sell a tapestry cushion in this design.
