Blackthorn, featuring stems of Common Blackthorn with a variety of other flowers, was designed by John Henry Dearle for Morris & Co. in 1892. Dearle took over as Art Director and chief designer at Morris & Co. after the death of William Morris in 1896. Dearle began his life long career with the company as a 17 year old shop assistant in the Morris & Co. Oxford Street shop.
