Brother Rabbit was first produced by William Morris in May 1882 at his Merton Abbey works using the Indigo discharge method of printing. The birds and rabbits within the design were drawn by Philip Webb. The Brother Rabbit design is also know as Brer Rabbit and was named after a character in the Uncle Remus stories by J.C.Harris (1881) which William Morris would read to his young daughters Jenny and May.
